Brueckner’s 30-year partnership powers India’s record-breaking BIAX film lines

At Plastindia 2026, Brueckner Maschinenbau and Brueckner Servtec outline why India remains one of its most vital global market, driven by a 100% market share in BOPP, record-breaking 700 m/min speeds, and a new frontier in technical "energy sector” films

Brückner Maschinenbau and Brückner Servtec move beyond the “supplier” tag, detailing a strategy that combines world-record production speeds with a 30-year service ecosystem designed to pivot India toward the global "energy sector.”

“India is no longer just a market where we sell machines; it is a market where we must build them,” states Johann Kreilinger, head of sales, Brueckner Maschinenbau. This isn't just corporate optimism. With an absolute 100% market share in BOPP and 50% in BOPET, Brueckner has become the invisible backbone of the Indian film industry.

However, the conversation at the Bharat Mandapam suggests a significant shift. While food packaging continues to play a central role, India’s market is evolving into high-performance applications. As the industry faces a mandatory shift toward recycled content and high-value technical applications, Brueckner is positioning itself not just as a machine builder, but as a long-term lifecycle partner.

Breaking the 700 m/min barrier

The headline for the show is undoubtedly speed. Brückner recently made waves with the sale of the world’s fastest BOPET line to Indian pioneer Dhunseri Poly Films. Operating at a constant 700 metres per minute (m/min) at their Panagarh site, this line is a statement of intent for the Indian market.

“Indian management does not compromise,” notes Tobias Lanksweirt, sales director, Brueckner Maschinenbau. He says, “They want the highest performance and the widest lines (up to 12 metres) available globally.” Despite these speeds, India remains a world leader in “thin gauge” applications producing lamination films as thin as eight microns. This capability is now a strategic advantage, as global regulations (like Europe’s PPWR 2030) push for thinner plastic layers in paper laminations.

The pivot to the energy sector

Perhaps the most critical takeaway is the transition into technical films. Brueckner is steering the conversation away from just packaging and toward the energy sector.

“With the rise of EVs and renewable energy, there is a massive demand for high-performance capacitors and batteries,” Kreilinger explains. Brueckner has already installed the first lines in India for capacitor films (BOPP-C) as thin as two microns. By providing solutions for battery separator films with an output of 500-million square metres, Brueckner is enabling Indian converters to pivot from the grocery shelf to the electric vehicle battery.

Servtec: The 30-year “insurance policy”

A Brueckner line is a multi-million dollar investment designed to run for three decades. This is where Brückner Servtec enters the frame. Sebastian Lange, CEO of Brueckner Servtec, describes their role as “lifecycle management.”

The heart of this support is the Brueckner Group India workshop in Navi Mumbai. This facility is one of only six in the world dedicated to the “clip and chain” service—the sophisticated transportation system that runs inside the machine. These chains are the high-wear “necklaces” of the line, and having a local workshop in Mumbai to refurbish them is a critical differentiator.

“We aren't just here for spare parts, we are here for line conversions,” says Lange. As market trends change, Servtec helps customers adapt 10-year-old lines to produce new sustainable materials like BOPE or integrate inline coating (ILC) to reduce production steps. In a market that is becoming increasingly cost-sensitive regarding energy, this ability to upgrade rather than replace is the ultimate proof of partnership.

Brueckner’s Plastindia 2026 Highlights

The showcase features the new 12-metre working width for BOPP lines setting a new industry standard for scale. These lines, capable of speeds up to 700 m/min, can reach a record annual output of 94,000 tonnes.

BO Greenline and AI is centred on energy efficiency and integrates AI-driven predictive quality control. The “intelligent machine” automatically adjusts parameters to maintain film quality without unnecessary heating or cooling, tackling the industry's second-highest cost: energy.

Beyond packaging, Brueckner is also highlighting its 8.7-metre-wide battery separator film lines alongside simultaneous stretching technology for capacitor films as thin as 2 microns for EV and renewable energy applications.
