The Cosmopack India Awards celebrate innovation and honour excellence in packaging design and formulation

Ajanta Bottle - Lightweight glass perfume bottles

A range of lightweight perfume bottles available in myriad shapes, sizes and designs. The bottles are crafted with thinner walls than traditional fragrance bottles, which reduces the bottles’ overall weight without compromising their structural integrity. The bottles’ neck size remains the same, even with the lower glass weight.

These lightweight bottles are claimed to benefit the brands who use them on a number of levels: They are said to reduce costs by 40%, as their reduced weight reduces shipping costs. They reduce a product’s environmental impact and carbon footprint. They also require less material to manufacture, thus costing less, a saving that can be passed on to the end consumer. The bottles are available in 10-ml, 30-ml, and 100-ml sizes in a range of designs.

Harman Packaging - Sustainable packaging solution (starch-based)

This packaging solution spotlights glass nail polish bottles whose caps are composed of starch-based materials, derived from agricultural waste. The finished material claims similar properties to PP while being 100% biodegradable.

The brushes within the starch-based packaging range are constructed with bio-filaments which helps reduce the use of chemicals and in turn reduce their impact on the environment.

The use of starch-based materials in the caps allows them to naturally decompose within a year, as the starch breaks down over time.

Albea - EcoFusion top with metamorphosis

Albea’s EcoFusion top innovation means that the company can now create a table using two components instead of three. This translates to a reduction in packaging weight of more than 80% compared to a standard head and cap tube construction.

When combined with metamorphosis, Albea’s bio-based, paper-based laminate web material used instead of plastic, the tube offers 50% paper content and a 45% reduction in its carbon footprint compared to standard tubes. Albea notes that the innovation chimes with its commitment to lowering packaging weights and finding alternatives to plastic.

Raj Plastics - CQ 2 in 1

Raj Plastics has created a new, smaller version of one of its existing designs to offer a sleek, handbag-sized cylindrical tube that can hold two different formulations. The company suggests that one side could hold a liquid lipstick while the other a gloss, or a blush and highlighter combination. The tube is crafted so that brands can customise it with their own designs in the middle of the vessel, while a window allows the colour inside to be displayed.

The packaging is made from acrylonitrile styrene, or AS, and can be used with all formulations that are compatible with AS.
