The Chetan Jain Column: Taurus Packaging expands TruCycl initiative

Taurus Packaging, based in India, supplies shrink sleeves and labelling solutions to a range of FMCG and beverage brands

Taurus Packaging has announced the commercial availability of its TruCycl shrink sleeve featuring 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, following strong industry interest in the company’s earlier introduction of India’s first fully recyclable shrink sleeve.

The development marks a significant step towards achieving circularity in packaging waste management while maintaining productivity and performance. According to Taurus Packaging, TruCycl addresses long-standing challenges associated with conventional recyclable shrink sleeves — such as label segregation, slow recycling processes, high costs, and ink contamination.

Unlike typical recyclable substrates, TruCycl allows bottles and labels to be recycled together, eliminating the need for label removal or segregation. Its design supports easy ink wash-off and generates no toxic waste during recycling. The company stated that the shrink sleeve provides reliable performance with good shrinkage, printability, gloss, and minimal wrinkling in the final product.

Chetan Jain, managing director and chief executive officer of Taurus Packaging, said that the response to his previous blog on sustainable shrink sleeves reinforced the need for practical solutions in the market. “The feedback confirmed that the challenges around sustainable or recyclable shrink sleeves are real and that the industry is actively seeking workable answers,” he said.

With more than 18 years of experience in shrink sleeve technology, Jain has authored multiple technical publications, including Five Myths about Sustainable Shrink Sleeves, which discusses misconceptions and technical complexities in sustainable packaging design.

He added that TruCycl not only ensures recyclability but also improves productivity — an aspect often overlooked in sustainable materials. “Most shrink sleeves fail to balance recyclability with operational efficiency. With TruCycl, converters and brands can achieve both,” he noted.

The company highlighted that TruCycl is particularly suited to premium brands aiming to lower their carbon footprint through practical, high-performance sustainable packaging.
