ACG Packaging Materials has had its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company has committed to cutting absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90%, and reducing Scope 3 emissions by 97% per tonne of product produced.
SBTi, a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute and the WWF, sets a global standard for aligning corporate climate action with climate science.
Karan Singh, managing director of ACG, said: “At ACG, we recognise that the future of the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries depends on our ability to innovate responsibly and operate sustainably. This validation provides us with a clear, science-backed framework to drive meaningful progress in reducing our environmental impact.”
He added that ACG would continue integrating sustainable practices across operations, investing in technology and engaging with stakeholders to build a low-carbon future.
The CEO of ACG Packaging Materials, Shivshankar SR, said the SBTi approval confirms ACG’s strategy to shift towards a carbon-conscious business model. “We're not simply aiming for incremental improvements; we're undertaking a fundamental shift in how we operate,” he said.
The company has set interim targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 54.6% and Scope 3 emissions by 61.07% per tonne of product by the financial year 2033.
Sunil Kumar, head of CSR and sustainability, said, “This validation is a testament to our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Our focus now is on expanding our initiatives beyond operations to create a lasting positive impact.”
ACG operates in 138 countries and provides integrated manufacturing solutions for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sectors.
