Rohit Chopra, Business Development Head at Kap Group, spoke about the company’s six-decade journey and its pioneering role in rigid packaging at Anuga FoodTec India.
Founded in the 1960s as Kuldeep Art Press (KAP), the company started as a printing press before diversifying into paper packaging, then into Cornetto cone sleeves and eventually into in-mould labelled (IML) rigid containers, becoming one of the first in India to adopt this technology.
Today, Kap Group operates multiple factories in Manesar, Gurgaon, Dharuhera and Bangalore, with large-scale production capacities. For instance, its cone manufacturing units produce 30-lakh cones per day in Bangalore and 45 to 50-lakh per day in Manesar, supplying to leading ice cream brands including Naturals, Amul, Mother Dairy and Havmor.
KAP Group is a trusted partner for Naturals, supplying its exclusive 750 ml container, alongside a variety of other customised rigid formats. The company’s USP lies in offering end-to-end solutions from prepress design and artwork development to customised mould manufacturing and full-scale packaging production.
Chopra emphasised that packaging today is a silent salesman, with consumers making buying decisions based on how the product looks before even tasting it. This has led to rising demand for customised, premium packaging.
Under the wider KAP Group umbrella, the company also distributes ice-cream machinery (via its Chinese vendor), supports 500–600 installed machines, builds cold rooms, and distributes Fabbri 1905 flavours across India—deepening category expertise and cross-sell. Exports account for ~30–35% of container volumes.
On sustainability, KAP Group is investing in biodegradable polymers such as PLA, exploring partnerships to integrate them into its containers. While plastics remain misunderstood as villains, Chopra underlined that their virgin polymer-based packaging is food-grade, reusable and recyclable. Currently, 30–35% of KAP Group’s container business is exported, and the company continues to expand its reach globally.
He concluded that KAP Group has consistently stayed ahead of trends by innovating from shifting to packaging in the 1980s, to introducing IML in India, and now moving towards biodegradable solutions.
