With a tradition of more than 150 years in weighing and inspection solutions, Minebea Intec has transformed from a German pioneer into an international brand. The company has had an Indian production plant in Peenya. The company has been in Bangalore for decades, but in the past years its operations have expanded significantly, making it the only Minebea Intec site worldwide to host all three business divisions under one roof: Inspection systems – checkweighers, metal detectors, x-ray machines for packaged food; industrial scales – bench and floor scales with electronics for recipe management, batching and process control; and silo, vessel and truck weighing – load cells and solutions for tanks, hoppers and heavy-duty weighing.
The larger majority of the products sold in India are manufactured locally, allowing the company to adapt to domestic needs while also exporting across Asia, the Middle East and Africa and other regions around the world. Metzger emphasised that the Indian entity is the best performing globally, especially after Covid-19, which accelerated demand in both biotech and food sectors.
Inspection skews mainly to packaged food, with the balance in pharma and niche industrial uses. Scales and load-cell systems cut across food, pharma, chemicals, and many other industry segments. Service and calibration remain foundational; basic scales can be self-installed, while inspection systems like checkweighers or x-ray machines require specialist commissioning and periodic checks.
At the show, Minebea Intec launched its new Checkweigher Essentus Advanced with the Blue HMI interface, recently awarded the Red Dot Design award, and proudly presented its first x-ray machine Identus designed and manufactured in India. Both represent the company’s offer for their customer groups to offer premium as well as mid-market solutions, combining compliance, safety and cost-effectiveness.
India today contributes around 10% of Minebea Intec’s global sales, a share that is steadily increasing due to the country’s growing economy, industrialisation and export potential. As Metzger noted, while mature markets in Europe and Japan are shrinking, India offers a double positive effect where domestic growth is coupled with rising global relevance.
