In a move aligned with the industry focus on corporate environmental responsibility, Casio India, a leader in innovative watches, calculators, musical instruments, and label printers, has successfully concluded a beach clean-up drive in Mumbai.
The drive, part of Casio’s Recycle Responsibly campaign, was held on 7 November at Girgaum Chowpatty. It brought together a coalition of partners, including Sheows, Allied Waste Solutions, Onika Social Welfare Foundation, and the youth-led group Change Is Us.
The initiative saw the participation of over 200 volunteers, including the leadership teams from Casio India and Allied Waste Solutions. The collective effort addressed the challenge of marine plastic pollution, reinforcing a crucial message about sustainable waste management and the importance of recycling, a topic of increasing relevance to the print and packaging sectors.
Akira Watanabe, director, Casio India, highlighted the corporate commitment: “This beach clean-up drive in Mumbai is a reminder that even small actions can make a big difference.”
Gurmeet Singh, legal head, Casio India, stressed the enduring nature of the effort. "Our beaches are not just scenic destinations; they are living ecosystems that deserve our protection and respect. The beach clean-up drive in Mumbai is a step toward reminding people that small, collective actions can create lasting change."
The collection of over a tonne of plastic waste underscores the necessity of robust logistics and shared accountability in tackling post-consumer waste.
Shubbh Mehta, co-founder of Change Is Us, affirmed the wider mission: “The Recycle Responsibly initiative at Girgaum Chowpatty goes beyond just cleaning; it’s about inspiring people to take accountability for the environment and make sustainable practices a part of their everyday lives.”
The initiative aligns with Casio’s global commitment to sustainability and the campaign’s mission to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste.
