Comexi is positioning sustainability as a driver of efficiency, presenting a portfolio of flexible packaging applications designed to meet regulatory demands while reducing costs at Interpack 2026.
At its stand, the company will showcase solutions that integrate printing, laminating, slitting and laser technologies, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions, lowering solvent use and improving production performance.
The focus will be on market-ready applications rather than concepts, with four packaging formats demonstrating how material design and process optimisation can deliver both environmental and economic benefits.
One example is a recyclable pet food pouch based on a BOPP monomaterial structure, printed using water-based inks and designed without traditional plastic zippers. Instead, a laser-created opening and resealable label are used, reducing material usage while maintaining functionality.
Another application features a monolayer polyethylene structure produced using electron beam flexo technology, eliminating the need for lamination. The approach reduces solvent use and production steps, while maintaining print quality and barrier performance.
Comexi will also present a paper-based packaging solution using its FREEcure technology, designed for food applications. The system uses photoinitiator-free inks and varnishes, enabling high-quality printing on paper substrates at industrial speeds.
A fourth example includes detergent pouches incorporating more than 40% post-consumer recycled material. The structure is designed for recyclability while maintaining shelf appeal, highlighting the balance between sustainability and brand requirements.
The company said these applications demonstrate how packaging design, materials and production processes can be aligned to reduce environmental impact without affecting performance or cost competitiveness.
A key part of Comexi’s Interpack programme is its Sustainable Packaging Showroom, where industry partners will present technical developments in areas such as solvent-free processes, VOC reduction and energy efficiency.
The company’s approach reflects wider industry trends, including the shift towards monomaterial structures, increased use of recycled content and the integration of energy-efficient technologies into production workflows.
Comexi said it expects Interpack to serve as a platform to engage with brand owners and converters looking to transition towards more sustainable packaging formats while maintaining operational efficiency.
