Cortec introduces compostable VCI paper

Cortec has introduced the first certified industrially compostable VCI (vapour corrosion inhibitor) paper for protective metals packaging. With the introduction of the EcoBio VpCI-146 paper, manufacturers can opt for metal protection with a focus on the circular economy.

Both ferrous and non-ferrous metal components can be wrapped or interleaved with the EcoBio VpCI-146 Paper, which releases vapours that prevent corrosion and create a molecular protective coating on metal surfaces while the item is still in its packaging. 

The corrosion inhibitors float away as the box is opened, and a clean replacement component can be installed right away. Additionally, both sides of the paper are protected from corrosion. 

The EcoBio VpCI-146 paper can be composted at an industrial composting plant or recycled in regular paper streams.

Additionally, since the product contains a corrosion inhibitor, the EcoBio VpCI-146 paper was tested extensively to determine its influence on soil when composted. 

During testing, the EcoBio VpCI-146 paper degraded and transformed into compost after around six weeks. Soybean and corn seedlings planted with the EcoBio VpCI-146 paper produced very similar results to plants cultivated with ordinary compost.

TUV Austria testing revealed that the EcoBio VpCI-146 paper satisfies the EN 13432 standard for industrial composting and degrades into humus with no harm to the soil.

Furthermore, the EcoBio VpCI-146 paper has 92% USDA-certified biobased content, indicating that it promotes sustainable sourcing, the preservation of important metal components, and two ecologically appropriate disposal alternatives.

The EcoBio VpCI-146 paper acts as a new packaging option for companies that are committed to voluntary green efforts or are required by law to reduce their usage of plastic.
