Drools Pet Food has entered the fresh pet food segment through a collaboration with Tetra Pak, supported by an investment of INR 180-crore in processing and packaging infrastructure.

With the launch, Drools becomes one of the first brands in Asia to introduce fresh pet food in Tetra Recart packaging, combining large-scale manufacturing with aseptic processing technology to bring a new format to the Indian market.

The company’s fresh pet food range will be available nationwide in variants including Real Chicken and Vegetables, Real Chicken and Turkey, Real Chicken and Pumpkin, and Real Chicken Biryani, in 150g and 350g packs.

India’s pet food market, estimated at USD 700-million to USD 900-million, is growing at a CAGR of 11 to 16%, driven by rising pet ownership and increasing demand for premium and specialised nutrition. Fresh pet food remains an emerging segment positioned between convenience and home-style feeding.

The products are made using real ingredients and do not require refrigeration before opening. The use of retorting and aseptic packaging enables shelf stability, food safety, and nutrient retention without the need for cold chain logistics.

Tetra Recart cartons are designed to protect contents from air and light, extending shelf life without preservatives. The format also offers advantages in terms of reduced weight and improved storage and disposal compared to conventional metal packaging.

Fahim Sultan, founder of Drools, said the collaboration enables the company to bring global advancements in processing and packaging to India, while expanding access to fresh pet food.

Cassio Simoes, managing director, south asia markets at Tetra Pak, said the partnership highlights how advanced packaging technologies can support the development of new product categories by combining freshness, convenience, and scalability.

Sanjiv Mehta, executive chairman of L Catterton and former chairman and CEO of Hindustan Unilever, said the move reflects a focus on sustainability, technology, and innovation as drivers of growth.

Backed by L Catterton and Nestle SA, Drools continues to expand its portfolio, supported by veterinary and nutrition expertise to develop new formats in pet food.
