The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the license of AR Dairy Food of Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, for severe violations related to the production, transport, and sale of ghee.
The investigation, prompted by a previous suspension order from 14 February 2025, found that the company's products contained foreign fats and were being sold and distributed without a proper license for repackaging or relabelling. Tests, including gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), confirmed the presence of plant-based compounds like sitosterol, which are not present in pure milk fat, confirming the adulteration.
The FSSAI's action comes after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court set aside the previous suspension and directed the authority to grant a personal hearing to the company. Citing serious contraventions, FSSAI officials stated that AR Dairy also provided false information to both the FSSAI and TTD.
Under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, AR Dairy and its representatives may face severe penalties, including significant monetary fines, imprisonment, and blacklisting.
