Hubergroup Print Solutions has inaugurated India’s first dedicated production facility for direct food contact (DFC) inks in Silvassa. The plant operates independently from other production areas and aligns with international standards for safety and sustainability in food packaging.

The facility manufactures MGA Contact, a sheet-fed ink series designed for direct contact with food. The inks meet strict global safety regulations and allow printing on the inner surfaces of paper and cardboard packaging when paired with Hubergroup’s Acrylac DFC varnishes. This enables new design options for packaging items such as chocolates, fruits, and takeaway food.

All raw materials used are carefully screened, and the final inks are subject to rigorous quality checks. The facility follows good manufacturing practice (GMP) principles, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions and using renewable inputs.

“We are very delighted about this inauguration, as it establishes us as a frontrunner in the Indian market,” said Prasanta Sarkar, vice president, technology (offset and UV inks) at Hubergroup India. “The mission of the new facility is clear: to make packaging safer, more sustainable, and more innovative. Our DFC inks and varnishes meet strict global safety standards and are designed with both people and the planet in mind.”

“This achievement is the result of tireless efforts by our global R&D teams, our partners, and colleagues who believed in this vision,” said Premal Desai, CEO at Hubergroup. “We are proud to have implemented this world-class technology in India, supporting local businesses with global-quality solutions.”

The Silvassa site is a key part of Hubergroup’s global network and supports secure, sustainable supply for customers worldwide. Hubergroup employs more than 3,000 people in nearly 30 countries and generated annual sales of around USD 806-million in 2024.
