Jindal Poly Films fire fallout

According to reports, post the fire at Jindal Poly Films' Nashik plant, the Industrial Safety Department has issued a temporary closure notice to the company, due to the lack of adequate fire extinguishing systems and chemical leakage posing a threat to the environment.

A major fire broke out at Jindal Poly Films' plant in Igatpuri, Nashik on 21 May. It took more than 56 hours to bring the fumes under control.

According to reports, two employees were injured during the incident. Reportedly, the fire has impacted 70% of production capacity.

The government has taken note of the incident, as this was the second major fire in two and a half years. The cause of the fire is still unclear, and an investigation is underway.

This incident could lead to a spike in prices for biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and biaxially oriented polyethene terephthalate (BOPET).

The plant has been temporarily shut down, causing supply chain disruptions in high-demand sectors.

The company cancelled its board meeting scheduled for 30 May 2025, due to the incident.
