The Global Rotogravure Association (GRA) highlights a growing initiative that is capturing international attention: Cafe Gravure, a digital roundtable discussion and initiative founded by Kaku Kohli. What began as a focused Q&A via email has developed into a live and interactive online platform serving the worldwide gravure community, dedicated to the art and technology underpinning gravure printing.

With over three decades of experience, Kohli designed Cafe Gravure to bridge geographical divides, enabling open exchange on complex technical and operational topics. The platform has already seen international engagement from professionals across Asia, Europe, and Africa, tackling subjects from safety protocols to advanced printing strategies.

The initiative will serve as a virtual reference for industry guidance and is set to convene on 19 November. The session is scheduled to take place on Zoom from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

This digital roundtable provides expert discussions and practical technical insights spanning critical aspects of the industry, including rotogravure press operation, coating, lamination processes, and the conversion of flexible packaging. The agenda features industry figures speaking and presenting on specific technical and strategic subjects.

Among the speakers are Simon Sonn, the GRA president, David Moller of 4Packaging, Kiran Deshpande of Siegwerk, business consultant Ashok Sethuram, and Michael Ruschenbeck of Renzmann.

Sonn will address the Global Gravure vision, while Moller will provide an overview of chrome alternatives for printing cylinders. Siegwerk’s Deshpande will highlight strategic roadmaps to extended colour gamut (ECG) success, sustainable profit, and gravure’s next gear.

In addition, Sethuram will speak on electrostatic charges and safety in gravure, and finally, Ruschenbeck of Renzmann will address efficient and sustainable working in downstream processes.

Each presentation segment is planned to conclude with a Q&A, ensuring interaction between participants and the panel. This community-driven format aligns with and supports the GRA’s ongoing mission to promote global collaboration and knowledge exchange within the gravure sector.
