Omron, a global leader in industrial automation, has inaugurated its new Automation Centre in Bengaluru, establishing a crucial hub to accelerate smart manufacturing adoption across India's packaging and processing machinery sector.
The new facility — one of Omron's 10 global Automation Centers and 34 Proof-of-Concept (PoC) labs — is designed as a collaborative ecosystem for machine builders, system integrators, manufacturers, and MSMEs. By aligning with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Industry 4.0’ initiatives, the centre offers a platform for practical demonstrations, PoC development, and co-creation, helping local manufacturers build world-class solutions.
The centre showcases a full spectrum of end-to-end automation technologies essential for modern packaging lines, including sensing, control, machine vision, safety, robotics, and AI-driven solutions. Live demonstrations cover areas from primary and secondary packaging to automated palletising, serialisation, and quality inspection, addressing key industry needs such as waste reduction, compliance, and traceability.
A standout feature is the integrated solution developed with Cognizant, which enables IT-OT convergence. This system converts real-time data from Omron PLCs, sensors, and robots into actionable intelligence via cloud-based analytics (APEx and Generative AI), facilitating predictive maintenance, early defect detection, and optimised cycle times.
Motohiro Yamanishi, the company president, Industrial Automation Company, Omron Corporation, Japan, said, "This centre is more than a showcase of technology; it is an engine for collaboration. By working closely with local partners, we aim to enhance global competitiveness and support India’s journey toward becoming a global manufacturing leader."
Beyond technology display, the facility is committed to skill development, with plans to train over 1,000 industry engineers annually to strengthen the talent pipeline.
Sameer Gandhi, the managing director, OmronAutomation India, added, “This centre helps manufacturers build safer workplaces, deliver higher quality products, reduce waste, and improve efficiency, contributing to a more sustainable and competitive manufacturing ecosystem.”
Strategically located near the Bengaluru International Airport, the Automation Centre is positioned as a vital resource to serve customers across South, West, and North India, powering the next phase of the country's manufacturing journey.
