Pelican Rotoflex has strengthened its market presence in India with two installations of its ELS 350 rotogravure press. The ELS 350 is engineered to provide precision and efficiency through the integration of dedicated Siemens servo motors at each printing station.

This electronic line shaft configuration ensures accurate registration and facilitates a reduction in material wastage. While traditional mechanical line shaft (MLS) machines typically incur wastage, the ELS technology limits this loss, effectively validating Pelican’s commitment to cost-effective production.

Innovative drying and engineering
A key differentiator for the Pelican range is the unique 2D and 3D drying system. This bidirectional drying technology improves overall efficiency by applying air from both directions, a feature that distinguishes the company from other players in the current market.

The company maintains a strict philosophy of in-house manufacturing, producing everything from basic components like nuts and bolts to the entire machine assembly at its Rajkot facility.

The primary imported components are the servo motors sourced from Siemens in Germany. These are installed by a specialised internal team, ensuring that both the mechanical assembly and the PLC software, the brain of the machine, are developed and managed entirely by Pelican experts.

Strategic regional growth
Fine Packaging, a prominent player in the flexible packaging sector in Maharashtra, has used this latest installation to upgrade its existing production capabilities. Having previously operated a Pelican MLS machine with a speed of 250-metres per minute, the converter has moved to the 350 model to meet growing demand for pouches and flexible materials.

In the south, the installation at Sneha Packers highlights the brand's expanding footprint across the Indian subcontinent. Despite increasing competition from international players and low-cost Chinese imports, Pelican continues to hold a strong position with an estimated 15 to 20 machines installed annually in India. The company prides itself on local service support, ensuring that clients can deal directly with the original equipment manufacturer for all software and technical requirements rather than relying on external third-party providers.
