PCMC and Bisleri highlighted a partnership that recycled 30,309-metric tonnes of plastic waste during the 2025-26 fiscal year

The event, which introduced benches and collection bins manufactured from processed plastic waste, serves as a localised expansion of Bisleri’s Bottles for Change program, a national initiative focused on source segregation and waste-to-resource conversion.

The inauguration was led by Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor Ravi Babasaheb Landge, alongside deputy municipal commissioner and head of the health department Dr Pradip Thengal. Representatives from the PCMC solid waste management department and corporate social responsibility (CSR) cell joined K Ganesh, Bisleri’s director of sustainability and corporate affairs, to highlight the operational outcomes of the collaboration.

According to municipal officials, the program is designed to divert plastic from regional landfills by integrating corporate collection logistics with urban governance frameworks.

During the ceremony, mayor Landge emphasised the role of public-private partnerships in establishing a circular economy, noting that such collaborations provide the technical infrastructure necessary for large-scale waste deflection.

Dr Thengal noted that the initiative aligns with the city’s broader strategy to build resource-efficient urban ecosystems.

As part of the proceedings, eight educational institutions within the Pimpri-Chinchwad jurisdiction were awarded certificates of recognition for maintaining consistent plastic collection protocols on their campuses throughout the year.

The initiative is supported by performance data from the 2025-26 fiscal year, indicating that Bisleri’s national partnerships have resulted in the collection and recycling of 30,309-metric tonnes of plastic waste. This volume is a critical metric for the Greener Promise campaign, which oversees the company’s efforts in water conservation and waste management. K Ganesh stated that the focus remains on sensitising citizens toward source segregation to ensure that plastic is treated as a recyclable commodity rather than discarded waste.

This partnership reflects a growing trend in Indian urban centres where municipal bodies leverage corporate social responsibility (CSR) to meet statutory waste management targets.
