Mumbai-based PTA Mumbai has conducted a two-day training programme on ‘Paper, Paperboard & Corrugated Fiber Box Packaging Materials’ on 9–10 April 2026, aimed at strengthening technical knowledge across the packaging value chain.
The programme drew participation from 33 members, with a significant presence of young entrepreneurs, signalling growing interest among the next generation of industry professionals in paper-based packaging solutions.
Structured as a comprehensive learning initiative, the training covered a wide spectrum of topics, beginning with the fundamentals of packaging and paperboard. Participants were introduced to key manufacturing processes, including paper conversion and the role of specialty coatings in enhancing functionality and performance.
Sessions included ones on coatings and specialty paper for packaging by Dr Manoj Sathawane and history, manufacturing and properties of corrugated fiberboard by Dr Subodh Juikar. The sessions also focused on corrugated fibreboard — its properties, design considerations and diverse applications across sectors such as FMCG, e-commerce and industrial packaging. In addition, attendees were familiarised with testing protocols, quality evaluation techniques and the importance of standardisation in ensuring packaging reliability.
A key highlight of the programme was a laboratory visit, which offered participants practical exposure to testing equipment and research and development processes. This hands-on component enabled attendees to connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications, making the training more immersive and impactful.
According to Hiren Karia of Jay Raj Fine Paper such initiatives are designed to bridge knowledge gaps and build technical competence within the industry. The strong turnout, particularly from emerging entrepreneurs, reflects a growing appetite for structured learning and innovation-led growth in the paper and packaging segment, he said in a LinkdIn post.
He thanked the speakers and participants for their contribution to the programme’s success, adding that he looks forward to more such knowledge-driven sessions in the future.
With increasing focus on sustainability and performance-driven materials, training programmes of this nature are expected to play a crucial role in equipping industry stakeholders with the skills required to navigate evolving market demands.
