Over 200 industry experts, researchers, and students to converge at food packaging conference

PVGCOET and GKPWIOM's national conference on food packaging will convene research scientists, food processors, academicians and industry experts. Together, they will explore the evolving demands of food packaging, delve into the latest advancements, address challenges, and analyse emerging trends in the field.

Convenor of the program and department head of printing technology, Professor Madhura Mahajan, said, “Post pandemic, with evolving lifestyle and urbanisation, food packaging has gained immense significance. It is also one of the most sensitive factors towards human health.”

A lot is happening on the food packaging front in India. Recently, FSSAI revamped its standard on packaging and labelling by implementing IS 15945, and approved the use of 100% rPET for food products. Consistently, scientists and researchers are innovating new materials and technologies with the aim of enhancing the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of food packaging.

In pursuit of innovative food packaging solutions, the conference will feature paper presentations and panel discussions covering a wide range of topics. These include: packaging solutions for dry foods with extended shelf life and dairy products; developments in eco-friendly packaging materials; smart packaging innovations; and inks for food packaging.

Furthermore, the discussions will delve into the impact of supply chain and logistics on packaging requirements for food products, along with exploring the latest trends in package design.

Mahajan said, “The session will provide a forum, for industry professionals and researchers, to discuss challenges and opportunities in food packaging solutions.”

The conference will feature the attendance of the institute's chief patrons including chairman Rajendra V Borhade, directors SP Redekar and RG Kaduskar, and patron-cum-principal MR Tarambale. Their participation is expected to bring added encouragement and expertise to the session.

Padmaja Joshi, conference co-convenor and faculty member, added, “Participating in the conference as a sponsor will provide an opportunity to gain insights on industry challenges, eco-friendly packaging materials, design innovations, sustainability, intelligent packaging for food products, delivery solutions, and networking.”
