Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) has awarded Austria-based Andritz technology group the contract to supply a state-of-the-art tissue production line for its Unit II mill in Mondipatti Village, Tamil Nadu.

Andritz will deliver a PrimeLine S 2000 tissue machine designed to produce premium tissue grades using TNPL’s in-house hardwood pulp. It is engineered to ensure high bulk, optimal sheet dryness, and significant energy efficiency compared to conventional gas-heated systems. The machine, which has a production capacity of 34,000-tonnes per annum, features a design speed of 2,000-m/min and a working width of 2.85-metres. Key technologies include the latest PrimePress XT Evo shoe press, a 20-feet steel Yankee dryer, and a steam-heated hood.

The scope of supply also includes a complete stock preparation system, automation and electrification, high-efficiency process, stock, and fan pumps, all to be manufactured, assembled, and tested at the Andritz pump facility in Chennai. Andritz will also be responsible for the detailed engineering of the project.

Dr Sandeep Saxena, IAS, chairman and managing director of TNPL, stated, “Our vision is to adopt state-of-the-art technology and become the world’s most sustainable brand in the production of eco-friendly paper grades. In entering the tissue market, we sought a partner who brings innovation, expertise, and reliability and Andritz fits that vision perfectly.”

Ashutosh Batra, vice president of Sales at Andritz India, added, “Having already delivered a deinking plant, stock preparation equipment, and a complete chemical recovery island to TNPL, we are proud to extend this long-standing partnership with a forward-looking tissue project.”
