Trigon showcases NPD capabilities, zipper innovation at CMPL

The product spread on display was comprehensive: pouches, rigid boxes, canisters, labels, and shrink sleeves, all under one roof. What set the stall apart, however, was the immersive technology anchoring it.

At its fifth consecutive appearance at CMPL, Trigon Digipack arrived not merely as an exhibitor but as a statement. The Mumbai-based packaging service provider chose Formula 1 as the conceptual spine of its stall this year, positioning itself, as marketing executive Parija Namugade puts it, as "the Ferrari of the packaging industry." The analogy is not incidental. Innovation, agility, performance, and team building form the pillars of the company's brand identity, and the stall was designed to embody all four.

Namugade, speaking on day one of the exhibition, was candid about the intent behind this year's presence. "We have talked a lot over the years. This time we wanted people to come, see, and experience," she said. The shift in strategy is deliberate, the focus is as much on reconnecting with existing clients as it is on drawing in new ones.

A virtual reality station offered visitors a 360-degree walkthrough of Trigon's manufacturing facilities in Vasai and Goregaon, the latter located a short distance from the Nesco exhibition grounds. It is a confident, experiential move that signals where the company sees the future of client engagement.

On the product innovation front, the canisters drew particular attention, showcasing extensive post-press work, embossing, spot UV, and a variety of surface finishes that transform functional packaging into a premium object. The substrates on display ranged from metallic films to standard BOPP and metallised variants, serving end-use markets across food, cosmetics, and health and wellness.

One of the more quietly compelling conversations at the stall, however, centred on flat bottom pouches. Trigon has been working with several brands in the health nutrition space on this format, which Namugade describes as offering a distinctly premium shelf presence compared with conventional stand-up configurations. The flat base lends structural integrity particularly suited to heavier products such as whey protein powders, where the filled pouch must remain stable and presentable. "Once you put the product inside, it stands perfectly with the packaging showcasing properly," she explained.

The zipper innovation on these pouches deserves a mention in its own right. Trigon has developed a powder-preventive zipper mechanism specifically for powdered products, addressing the chronic frustration of residue accumulating in the seal channel and compromising reclosability. For brands in the protein and nutraceutical space, this is a practical and commercially significant development, sitting alongside the velcro zipper options also on show.

Trigon's New Product Development team, or NPD as it is referred to internally, adds another dimension to the company's service offering. The team works directly with brands at the earliest stages of packaging conception, producing mock-ups and prototypes, sometimes within 24 to 48 hours, to support marketing campaigns, limited-edition runs, or entirely new product launches. A prototype rigid box on display at the stall served as a tangible illustration of what the NPD function can produce. Conceived and executed in-house, it demonstrated the team's ability to move from brief to sample at pace.

The fifth edition of CMPL marks a moment of reflection for Trigon as much as it does a platform for display. The company has built its reputation over several years across flexible and rigid packaging, and this year's stall crystallises what that reputation rests on: range, craftsmanship, and the willingness to invest in both the tactile and the technological. The VR facility, the powder-preventive zipper, the flat bottom pouch formats, and the rapid-prototyping capability of the NPD team collectively tell the story of a converter that is thinking beyond the print
