The logo and brochure for the Global Food Regulators Summit (GFRS) 2025 were unveiled in New Delhi on 23 September, with union health minister JP Nadda declaring that the event will explore the profound link between food quality and societal well-being.
The summit, organised by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) alongside the World Food India 2025 event, is set to take place at Bharat Mandapam from 26-27 September. This year's theme, "Evolving Food Systems – Yatha Annam Tatha Manah (As the food, so the mind)" – will guide discussions among global regulators.
In his keynote address, Nadda emphasised that "Food is not merely nourishment; it is a force that shapes physical well-being, mental health, emotional balance, and societal harmony." He urged food regulators to be vigilant and adaptable, ensuring standards are updated to reflect evolving eating habits and market trends.
The GFRS will provide a unique platform for international regulators to share perspectives, harmonise standards, and strengthen risk assessment capacities. Its objective is to protect consumer health while promoting fair trade, innovation, and sustainable food systems that benefit all.
A key initiative to be launched at the summit is the ‘Eat Right Thali’ book, an FSSAI project that celebrates India’s diverse culinary heritage. The book showcases traditional thalis from all states, highlighting local ingredients, cooking practices, and age-old dietary wisdom. This compilation aims to be a guide for preventive health, aligning with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's call to use traditional diets to combat obesity and lifestyle diseases.
Now in its third consecutive year, the GFRS has firmly established India as a central hub for international dialogue on food safety. The summit is expected to see the active participation of experts and organisations including the WHO, Codex, FAO, and EFSA, fostering a robust ecosystem for innovation and regulatory harmony across the globe.
