Ahmedabad-based Yashvi Printpack brought an innovation-led display to its sixth consecutive CMPL appearance this year. Tactile labels engineered for psychological effect, embellished shrink sleeves and an invisible barcode technology on the cusp of commercial launch all drew attention at the stand.

Khush Desai, chief executive of Yashvi Printpack told WhatPackaging? that the company's overriding focus is on pushing the limits of what labels and sleeves can communicate to the end consumer. "Whatever we are showcasing here is pure innovation," he said. "We always try to push our benchmark."

Labels that speak

The centrepiece of Yashvi's display for the food segment was what Desai described as a psychological effect label: a kiwi fruit label with a surface texture that replicates the actual feel of kiwi skin. The intent is to create a sensory signal at the point of purchase, reinforcing to the shopper that real fruit has been used in the product.

"Psychologically, your brand's customers should feel that the real kiwi has been used inside," Desai explained. For the cosmetics segment, the company also presented what he called its "diamond" label, a high-impact decorative format that has emerged as one of its most talked-about products at the show.

Textured sleeves in development

On the sleeves side, Yashvi is extending its embellishment capabilities from labels into shrink and stretch sleeve formats. String sleeves with added surface textures are already being offered to beverage brands looking to introduce a premium quality cue to their packaging. Broader texture application across the sleeve range remains under development.

"Everyone is doing gloss and matt in the market," Desai said. "We are trying to put all the possible textures available in labels into sleeves as well. Whatever a brand can think of in a label can technically be done in a sleeve."

Invisible barcode nears launch

Perhaps the most significant development Desai highlighted was an invisible barcode system designed specifically for anti-counterfeiting. The technology embeds a scannable code directly within the label design, imperceptible to the naked eye and accessible only to the brand owner and the printer. It has been developed in partnership with foreign companies and is, in Desai's words, "on the edge of commercialisation."

The solution forms part of a broader anti-counterfeiting toolkit that Yashvi has built for clients in food, and edible oil sectors Desai identified as particularly vulnerable. He cited figures suggesting counterfeit goods worth around INR 1-lakh-crore are seized annually in India. The company's current offering in this space also includes holograms, nanotext and untraceable barcodes.

Now in its 25th year of operation, Yashvi Printpack reported strong footfall and positive reception at CMPL 2026, consistent with what Desai described as year-on-year growth in the company's experience of the show.
