ProductWatch: Hi-Tech’s TechLam ink
Hi-Tech Inks’ TechLam is a specialised, non-toluene ink system designed for high-speed wrap-around labelling, providing flexibility and solvent release for both gravure and flexographic printing.

Since its introduction to the Indian market in 2015, TechLam ink has become a staple for packaging service providers specialising in wrap-around labels (WAL). Developed by Hi-Tech Inks to meet the industry’s demand for food-safe consumables, the ink system is formulated for reverse printing on BOPP and coated PET films, bridging the gap between high-speed industrial demand and stringent toxicity standards.
At the core of the ink system is its specialised resin and pigment technology, which is entirely free of toluene and ketone. Its non-toluene (NT) status is particularly relevant for the Indian food and beverage sectors, where food safety and low odour profiles are key drivers for brand owners. The ink is characterised by its flexibility and low solvent retention, preventing the ink-to-film blocking that can often occur in tightly wound label rolls.
The system is engineered for versatility across rotogravure and flexo platforms. In gravure applications, it typically runs at a printing viscosity of 16 to 20 seconds, while flexo setups are optimised for 20 to 25 seconds.
The use of simple solvent blends for reduction — such as absolute alcohol and methoxy propanol — makes the ink user-friendly for press operators, allowing for easy adjustments to suit varying ambient conditions in Indian printing facilities.
Beyond its chemical safety, TechLam scores high on mechanical durability. It offers water and oil resistance (when used with suitable overprint varnishes) and good jaw release for high-speed labelling machines. With solid content meticulously designed for each colour — reaching up to 44% in whites — the ink ensures high opacity and crisp graphics at a competitive cost-per-print.
By focusing on a broad operational window, TechLam enables packaging service providers to achieve consistent results with minimal troubleshooting, even during high-speed, continuous-run operations.
Siegwerk signed a definitive agreement to acquire Hi-Tech Inks on 25 March 2026.
