How did you get into the print and packaging industry, and what attracted you to it?
By profession, I am a fashion designer, and while practising in the field, I made a sudden transition into the print and packaging field, with my brother’s support. Now, instead of using my talent for designing garments, I design packaging for customers. I never thought marketing would become a passion. I decided to give it a try. SwissPac previously did not market in India because its main focus was on exports; we now export to more than 70 countries. I wanted our presence to be known in India since the manufacturing unit is located here, and that was the reason I jumped into this field.
What would be your advice to young professionals looking to enter marketing in the printing and packaging industry?
Build a good bond with customers — this can even lead to starting a new business.
Was there a specific piece of advice you received that completely shifted your perspective on your career?
The motto, “Your customer should be your friend.” If the customer is your friend, you can handle any situation; if an issue arises, they will be understanding and support you.
What is your mindset as a woman in a male-dominated industry?
In a male-dominated industry, some customers feel that women lack specific knowledge and may try to ignore you in favour of a male colleague. There is a specific mentality where people do not always view women in this field with respect. People also often confuse marketing with sales without understanding the difference. I keep it simple: the moment I start talking to a customer, I address them in a way that feels like I have known them for ages. This makes them feel comfortable immediately. As a marketing professional, I am here to exchange ideas and assist with product development.
What is the best thing about working at Swiss Pac?
I have learned a lot. SwissPac is like a well — the more you dig, the more you learn. You get so many ideas to work on, and the learning opportunities here are unmatched.
Who is your inspiration?
My brother and my father have always been my primary sources of inspiration. Their unwavering support for every decision I have made and their constant guidance have been instrumental to my growth, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have them in my life.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
I suggest all young girls and boys looking to start a career in marketing go for it without a second thought. You will meet people from different fields, build valuable contacts, and understand market trends.
