The twelfth edition of Vinyl India Business Summit kicked off on 10 April at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. The two-day business networking event is organised by Elite Plus and supported by the department of chemicals and petro-chemicals. Over 1,250 attendees, 70 global speakers, and 50 exhibitors are expected to participate in the event.

Nidhi Verma, founder and managing director, Elite Plus unveiled the logo of the 12th edition and welcomed the attendees while emphasising the importance of networking in the PVC industry, which is facing sluggish growth and demand in India. She expressed optimism over the exponential increase in participation and interest in Vinyl India over the years.

Jim Couslston, CEO, Vinyl Council of Australia, and Aine Curran, president and CEO, Vinyl Institute of Canada, extended their greetings to the gathering. Ajit Singh, chairman of the ACG Group, set the context for the event by calling for the industry to engage profusely and dispel the myths about PVC being perceived as a harmful product in the media.

Deepak Mishra, joint secretary, department of chemicals and petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, was the guest of honour for the event. He threw light on the challenges faced by policymakers who are in the crosshairs of international forums when compounds like vinyl chloride face stiff opposition.

There was a consensus that global PVC demand is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years, with India's production capacity projected to grow to 5.5-mmt by 2030.
