India’s plastics exports climbed 8% in the financial year 2024–25, reaching USD 12.5-billion, up from USD 11.5-billion the previous year, according to the Plastics Export Promotion Council (Plexconcil).
This growth was driven by strong performances in several key product categories. Exports of plastic films and sheets rose by 15.9% to USD 2,028-million, while FIBC, woven sacks, fabrics, and tarpaulin grew 16% to USD 1,571-million. Floorcoverings, leathercloth, and laminates also recorded a 9.9% increase, totalling USD 762-million.
The United States, China, UAE, and Brazil remained major markets, reflecting India’s growing global footprint in plastics.
“This 8% growth reflects the industry’s innovation, resilience, and the rising demand for Indian plastic products across diverse geographies,” said Vikram Bhadauria, chairman of Plexconcil.
Looking ahead, the industry sees strong potential in Africa, Latin America, and the CIS region, where infrastructure and industrial growth are creating new demand. The sector is also pushing for faster conclusion of strategic trade agreements, including a bilateral trade agreement with the US and free trade agreements with the UK and EU.
“With expanding opportunities and key trade deals in progress, we are confident of achieving 12% export growth in 2025–26,” added Sribash Dasmohapatra, executive director of Plexconcil.
Plexconcil was established in 1955 by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. It is the apex body for plastics export promotion. It represents over 3,000 exporters and connects the Indian plastics industry with global markets.
