The Jet Press FP790 digital press has a range of technical upgrades aimed at high-performance flexible packaging. A central technical feature of the FP790 is its use of water-based primers and inkjet technology, which meet regulatory requirements for food-grade flexible packaging.

The digital process eliminates traditional plate-making requirements and associated consumables, which reduces waste during job changeovers and minimises the environmental footprint of the printing process. For high-opacity requirements on clear films, the system includes two dedicated white inkjet channels to ensure dense coverage.

The press maintains a maximum substrate width of 790-mm and a constant productivity speed of 50-m/min, regardless of the number of colours utilised in the print run. According to product specifications, the machine achieves a resolution of 1,200x1,200-dpi and can reproduce more than 90% of the Pantone colour gamut using its CMYK ink set.

The latest iterations of the machine have expanded substrate compatibility to include standard films like PET and BOPP alongside more sustainable options such as MDOPE and BOPE from 20 microns. The press is also capable of handling paper and label materials up to 100-gsm, with a maximum substrate thickness now reaching 130 microns.

The press is integrated with the XMF Packaging digital front end, a unified workflow solution developed in partnership with Hybrid Software. This open-architecture system provides automated pre-press functionality and is designed to slot into existing production environments without requiring specialised finishing processes.

To ensure seamless post-press performance, Fujifilm has conducted extensive testing with industry partners such as Henkel for solvent-free laminating adhesives and Nordmeccanica for two-layer laminating machines. These collaborations demonstrate the press's compatibility with standard downstream processes including laminating, slitting, and finishing.
