India's first-of-its-kind mangrove park in Gorai, Mumbai, developed by the Maharashtra Forest Department’s Mangrove Cell, is slated to open its doors to the public by July this year. This project aims to offer visitors an immersive experience of Mumbai's rich coastal ecosystem while promoting environmental awareness.
A key highlight is a 750-metre-long wooden boardwalk that traverses through the dense mangrove forests, allowing visitors to witness the ecosystem up close without disturbance. At the end of this boardwalk, a viewing deck provides panoramic views of the surrounding area.
The project also includes a 1.2-metre watch tower, enabling visitors to observe the avian species thriving in the area. Notably, the elevated walkway was constructed using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient solutions, ensuring minimal impact on the fragile ecosystem.
In addition to the natural attractions, the park will feature an interpretation centre and a library stocked with informative boards and panels, books, and other resources to facilitate a deeper understanding of mangrove conservation and biodiversity. A rooftop restaurant and a nature-themed gift shop will also be part of the facility.
The total estimated cost for the project is INR 33.43-crore.
