The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, inaugurated its new Bengaluru Centre on 31 October 2025.

The facility was inaugurated by minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal, who emphasised the centre’s role in advancing packaging education, research, testing, and certification.

Built on a four-acre campus, the Bengaluru Centre integrates AI-enabled testing, data analytics, and smart packaging demonstrations to strengthen capacity in next-generation packaging technologies. It houses laboratories for material testing, chemical analysis, and transport evaluation, catering to sectors such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, logistics, e-commerce, and consumer goods.

A key highlight is the dedicated Food Packaging Line, designed for hands-on training in modern packaging operations including form-fill-seal, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), vacuum and shrink packaging, and barcode printing.

The inauguration brought together key dignitaries including Prof Tanweer Alam, additional director of IIP, Prabhakar Bantwal, vice chairman of IIP and CMD of Suprabha Protective, Harish R K, regional officer of IIP Bengaluru, K N Narasimhamurthy, director of FKCCI, and Dr Seetharamu G K, director of the Centre of Excellence for Farmer Producer Organizations (CoE-FPO).

The centre will serve as a hub for testing, certification, research, skill development, and industry–academia collaboration, strengthening India’s packaging innovation ecosystem under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
