Plastic waste drive yields recycled material for Jindal

Jindal Stainless, India’s leading stainless steel manufacturer, has concluded its annual plastic waste collection drive, amassing over 13 tonnes of plastic from its facilities and surrounding communities. The initiative, tied to World Environment Day and the company’s #SwitchToStainless campaign, focused on raising awareness about plastic waste reduction and recycling.

This year's collection surpassed last year's two-tonne collection

The plastic waste drive spanned across the corporate offices and manufacturing plants of Jindal Stainless in Jajpur, Odisha, and Hisar, Haryana, as well as offices in Delhi-NCR. This year, the company extended its reach beyond its premises by setting up collection points in local neighbourhoods like Patel Nagar in Hisar and Solei and Singagadia in Jajpur. Door-to-door awareness campaigns supported the collection efforts.

Working with the Green Dream Foundation, the initiative saw participation from both employees and the local community. A total of 3,795.8 kg of plastic was collected in Hisar, 8,926-kilogrammes in Jajpur, and 769.50-kilogrammes from Delhi-NCR offices.

The collected plastic waste will be recycled into functional items like benches, chairs, and dustbins, which will be installed within the company’s facilities and public spaces in collaboration with local authorities. As an incentive, participants who donated plastic received stainless steel gifts, such as coffee mugs and canisters.

This year's collection surpassed last year's two-tonne collection, demonstrating the company’s growing commitment to environmental sustainability. Jindal Stainless aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and has already reduced its corporate carbon footprint by approximately 15% in FY 2024-25 through ongoing decarbonisation efforts.
