Siegwerk plans to double India capacity amid growing packaging demand

Siegwerk Druckfarben, the 200-year-old German company with an annual turnover exceeding INR 1,000-crore in India, is set to double its capacity within the country over the next five years. This expansion is driven by demand for packaging ink, fueled by India’s economic growth and rising consumerism, particularly in branded products, which require safe packaging.

Ashish Pradhan: Siegwerk plans to double capacity by 2030. In the next five years, we would cross INR 2,000-crore in revenue

To meet the domestic demand and achieve its ambitious targets, Siegwerk plans to enhance its existing facility in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, and establish a new factory in Western India, targeting the growing markets in the southern and western regions.

Ashish Pradhan, president of Asia at Siegwerk, said, "In the last five years, we have grown at an annual compounded growth of more than 12% to 13%. And we see the same continuing in the future." He added, "We plan to double by 2030. In the next five years, we will cross INR 2,000-crore revenue."

Pradhan highlighted India's favourable macroeconomic conditions, including its strong GDP growth and demographic dividend, as key drivers for the company's expansion. "The capita consumption is a fraction of what we have in the developed world ,and there is still a lot of headroom to grow here," he added. Confident in the market’s potential, Siegwerk aims to increase its market share in India from the current 12% to up to 20%.

Elaborating about the capacity expansion plans, Pradhan said, "We have one plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, the second-largest plant in the Siegwerk group. We are making it bigger now with more capacity, which will take us to 2027-28." Pradhan added, "Later, we will invest in a brand-new facility in the West, either in Gujarat or Maharashtra.

He also mentioned ongoing efforts to explore acquisitions in the Indian market, projecting at least 50% more investment in the next five years compared to previous periods.

Siegwerk has 800 employees in India and currently produces 25-30,000 tons of ink annually, which contributes 13-14% to the Group’s overall sales.
