Anuj and Somya Bhargava: Leadership in the alco-bev segment

In an unprecedented move, Greater Noida-based Kumar Labels recently merged its operations in Indore and Goa. Instead, the company has doubled the space at a new Greater Noida facility. The idea is to consolidate operations from a centralised facility.

Anuj Bhargava, managing director of Kumar Labels, says, “Centralising operations was not just a logistical decision, it was a strategic imperative. We are now better positioned to deliver consistent quality, shorter lead times, and increased capacity — all under one roof.”

The new single, expansive and unified facility in Greater Noida brings scale, synergy, and sharper execution to the company’s growing clientele, particularly in the premium alcoholic beverages (alco-bev) segment. Towards this, the company has also invested in NBG and Esko kit.

The journey so far
Bhargava knows what he is doing. In 2007, before establishing the company, he spoke to prospective customers to get a sense of the challenges they faced. He addressed three main concerns: the lack of quality, timely delivery, and suppliers that were willing to do short runs.

In 2020, the company scaled up and established a plant in Goa. In 2022, it established a plant in Indore. In 2023, Kumar Labels separated and set-up a different plant for producing label stocks and an entirely independent factory for raw materials.

The new chapter
After folding its operations in Goa and Indore, Kumar Labels has established a new labels production plant adjunct to its existing plant in Greater Noida. The new plant has 51,000-sqft total area.

Bhargava says, “We went multi-locational and operated well. But after gaining the experience, we realised that production under one roof is more appropriate for us. That’s why we merged both the premises and consolidated at Greater Noida. Now, we have better and stronger control over production and delivery. Communication is also fast. Another benefit is that we have all the operations under one roof, from labelstock to pre-press to printing to finishing to embellishment to delivery, and all processes under one roof give us better results.”

He reiterates that the existing production plant is capable of meeting the company’s requirements for label production.

“Our pre-press and printing segments are fully equipped and operational. We may add a few equipment for embellishment or finishing,” he said.

He adds that digital printing for short-run labels is missing. The company will get the technology next year, as this year’s investment was completed with the establishment of the new plant.

“Another investment will go in empowering our team members by providing the best training for their upliftment and skills development. Training is our prime focus because we believe that trained and skilled team members do wonders with your equipment, because packaging and printing production is all about the combination of men and machines,” he says.

Stronghold in alco-bev labelling
Kumar Labels has built a reputation for excellence in the alco-bev space, where label aesthetics and technical performance play a critical role in brand storytelling and shelf impact. From textured substrates to metallic effects and tactile finishes, the company caters to some of the most demanding and creative briefs in the spirits industry.

“Alco-bev labels are not just decorative, they’re deeply functional. They must survive ice buckets, moisture, handling, and transport, all the while staying visually perfect. This requires not only craftsmanship but also the right technology stack,” Bhargava says.

Indri, Teacher’s, Captain Morgan are some of the examples of highly embellished labels done by Kumar Labels recently.

Powered by the right technology
The Greater Noida plant is equipped with American, European, Korean and Indian flexo and screen printing presses, advanced finishing systems, and quality assurance tools that enable precision and repeatability. Kumar Labels relies on best-in-class machinery, both Indian and imported, to maintain its hallmark standards.

The company’s relentless focus on automation, standardisation, and sustainability ensures that it remains ahead of evolving regulatory and environmental benchmarks in India and abroad.

During Labelexpo 2024 India, Kumar Label ordered its third machine from NBG Printographic Machinery — a 10-colour Starflex. It’s an ideal choice for the company offering the versatility and high-performance needed for precise, vibrant, and efficient multicolour printing.

Kumar Labels is gearing up to invest in digital printing technology in 2026, a move that will allow the company to expand into short-run, personalised, and high-value applications across various product categories.

“Digital is the future, and we’re preparing to be ready for the next wave of customisation and agility in label printing,” Bhargava confirms.

In-house substrate production
Kumar Labels has an in-house production facility for labelstock production, where the labels manufacturing company produces printing and packaging material for its own in-house needs.

Bhargava says, “Our in-house labels stock enables us to produce a unique combination of materials to produce innovative labels. We have a laminating facility equipped with appropriate equipment to fulfil our requirements. We produce 10-million sqmt per month of labelstocks. The use of material depends on the applications."

According to Bhargava, the Indian label industry is a space driven by owner-led passion, close-knit operations, and high customer expectations. “It’s a low-glamour, high-demand sector where service, speed, and trust are everything. That’s what we live by,” he says.

Despite the challenges, Kumar Labels continues to grow by combining practical wisdom, future-ready investments, and a strong team culture — a blueprint that many in the industry will likely emulate in years to come.
