Product Watch: SP Ultraflex’s Ultraslit Max OHP

SP Ultraflex has launched the Ultraslit Max OHP, a slitting rewinding machine built for converters handling diverse substrates and large-volume jobs.

The machine accommodates a maximum web width of 1400 mm, with unwind reel diameters up to 1200 mm and rewind reel diameters up to 800 mm. It can run at 1000 metres per minute without compromising slit accuracy or roll quality.

According to Biku Kohli, managing director, SP Ultraflex, “The Ultraslit Max OHP has been developed for converters looking for equipment that can handle jumbo slitting for multi-track jobs such as coffee, shampoo, milk, and liquor, while also carrying out wraparound label jobs for water and beverages.”

The machine is optimised for BOPP, PET, CPP, PE, paper, and their flexible laminates, including aluminium foil.

Kohli said operator-friendliness was a key design factor. “It has an overhead path, providing free access for web threading and cutter access,” he explained. The system includes end-to-end reel handling, a floor lift for unwind reels, and a motorised ejector and off-loader with a secondary pusher for rewind reels.

Automation features include a fully automatic ‘pick and place’ knife system and Intelligent Tension Management (ITM), which automatically determines the optimum tension and taper levels for each job.

Inline inspection or defect detection systems can be integrated on request. The footprint has slightly increased to accommodate a reinforced off-loader capable of handling up to 800 kg jumbo reels, but power consumption remains unchanged. Higher speeds and reduced ramp times help lower per kg conversion costs.

A fully automatic knife positioning system and multiple lasers for core alignment enable quick job changeovers. The new Duplex Trim Winder (DTW) reduces trim reel changeovers by more than half. The touchscreen HMI includes a fault diagnostic page and video guides for maintenance and troubleshooting.

“The machine can produce reels of 800 mm diameter, reducing rewind changeovers to nearly half,” Kohli added.

The Ultraslit Max OHP will be demonstrated live at K 2025 in Dusseldorf this October.
