Describing the sustainable approach of The Mend Packaging, the founders said, “Our vendor network and partnerships are helpful, as we tap  into them to develop new products for us. Right now, the focus is on developing alternatives  to rigid plastics, hence our offerings on using ayurvedic by-products and agro waste as a  replacement to traditional polymers.”

The sustainably sourced banana leather mimics traditional leather in look, feel, and scent, and is 100% vegan. Crafted from upcycled banana crop waste sourced from smallholder farmers, The Mend Packaging aims to offer guilt-free, cruelty-free fashion packaging that deters crop burning and fosters sustainable farming.

These banana-based leather can be customised into sleek envelope pouches and luxurious rigid boxes. The Mend Packaging’s artisans collaborate with the brands to offer various printing techniques, personalised monogramming and laser-cut designs.

Talking about the material selection, Rishika Reddy, founder, The Mend Packaging, said, “We follow multiple protocols when it comes to sourcing materials, pricing, sampling, and quality checks and assurances to ensure there are minimal problems  or issues when completing an order. I think laying out process flows as a team and  constantly iterating it and taking feedback is critical in ensuring the success of the same.”

Some of the applications include jewellery boxes, apparel packaging, cosmetic and beauty containers, exclusive PR and gift boxes, designer accessory packaging and watch boxes. These sustainable boxes can be digitally printed along with embossing, foil stamping, laser engraving and screen printing.

The Mend Packaging aims to transform materials to create innovative packaging solutions for brands across the globe. Its products are made from recycled, biodegradable and compostable materials, and offers customised solutions to cater to the market’s need for sustainable alternatives.

In a conversation with the WhatPackaging? team, Rishika Reddy said, “Our clients in the F&B space are looking for flexible and  biodegradable options for their primary packaging, in the apparel space a lot of clients are  looking for returnable/reusable packaging, in the eCommerce space clients are looking for compostable options. So the focus for different industries is based on their goalpost of sustainability and their business needs.”

The Mend Packaging works with companies across all industries to build optimised sustainable packaging solutions. It offers services right from packaging design to manufacturing, as well as building resilient options for a circular future.

The company works with brands to ideate, design and execute packaging while maintaining brand identity and aesthetic. It claims to manufacture products at a location closest to the brand while maintaining affordability.
